District 9 and Season 2 of Andromeda

31 Jul 2010 at 10:57am

Finally remembered to pick up a copy of district 9 and it has to be the worst film I've seen all year. Looked so promising and yet is was so disappointing.....another could have been good but wasn't..........so after being bitterly disappointed I was glad I also picked up a copy of season 2 Andromeda and that fixed everything! Awesome show...............have you seen my force lance....LOL......

You made two good choices...I am quite surprised you didn't like District 9..it's a bit different from the popular scifi movies with space ships, battles and "saving earth" plot .... and the begining is a bit slow..... but the whole story is very interesting. At the begining I felt a bit bored, later I found myself deeply moved by the story ...it's probably not that kind of a movie I'd like to watch every month but once a year it'd be like a fresh experience.....

How do you say 'we're screwed' in your native tongue?

District 9 and Season 2 of Andromeda

Yeah I was surprised I didn't like it either. I didn't mind the start, but I dislike patchy stories, which to me this was. And it seemed to leave me with more questions than answers and I don't like movies like that unless a sequels coming. In all honesty I was that bored I feel asleep in the middle, so I may have missed some of the good bits if there was some. Woke up and saw the ending and it just seemed like a movie with bad actors and a lot of senseless violence (reminded me of starship troopers no. 2). I just found the whole story hard to swallow. Imagine going aboard this ship not knowing what you'd find, finding those creatures and just sort of saying "Hi how are ya, come down to earth and we'll feed you and shove you in a refugee camp"! For a documentary style of story line it just seemed so wish-washy. If I found a whole ship full of aliens looking like that I'd be as scared as hell, not to mention that they just seemed to start communicating with each other - like how? the aliens didn't speak english. The fact that even though they weren't happy and there was a huge number of them they just sat around the compound scavaging through rubbish when they easily could rip humans in half, just didn't make sense to me. It would have been much more interesting if they tried to escape where they were to make a better life for themselves until they found the means to escape back onto their ship (as they eventually did). I also didn't like the fact that when they went in to relocate them they went around incinerating their young. What the hell was that about??? If they were providing them with sanctuary, why would they be trying to annihilate them as well?? Esp if they were just about to relocate them. Why did only one escape at the end? As it was running along to his escape vehicle, others saw the creature, why didn't they join him as well? Etc Etc......

Anyhow, just my opinion. Maybe if I watch the whole lot again I might like it better. But it's definitely a movie that if I don't see for another year it wouldn't phase me.

District 9 and Season 2 of Andromeda

I was pretty much bed ridden on the weekend due to illness and so I watched district nine two more times - so have seen it three times alltogether - and weirdly on the third watch I seemed to warm to this story a bit more. It's weird. When I first watched shrek I had the same reaction, didn't like it much very disappointed but then after a few viewings I quite liked it. Anyhow, I have decided that it's not as bad as I first thought, but I still feel the story line was a bit poor and somethings still don't seem to make logical story line sense but anyway....getting better....

Just finished my season 2 of Andromeda and guess who appeared in it.....Teal'c....I really enjoyed this season and can't wait to get the next one. The ships are so awesome in it. In my opinion they have the best ships of any sci fi series.
